Visit to Auroville

Pondicherry is famous not only for Nirvana school (!), but also its Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville.

Auroville is an international experimental tonwship, inspired by the vision of Sri Aurobindo. Auroville means the "City of Dawn". It is now a remarkably beautiful and tranquil place, as you can see from these magical images taken mainly in March 2005:-

The Matri Mandir, a huge golden globe with a meditation room in its centre:-

The famous Banyan tree, the type of tree under which Buddha achieved "Nirvana":-
Image of the Bunyan tree taken at a different time of the season when it was lush green:-

A hut seen on the Auroville land:-

Images of flowers as displayed on the tables at the Auroville vegetarian restaurant:-

Flowers in bloom:-

Water-Lily lake:-

Orchids sprouting:-
Spring blossom - NOT in Auroville, but I liked the image!
