When Tsunami hit Asia in December 2004, the area around Nirvana school and Pondicherry was badly hit.

There were around 300 deaths in the surrounding coastal region and the lcoal fishing community was prohibited from fishing for three months.

Nirvana school was saved from being washed away thanks to a sea wall built only six months prior to Tsunami.

The Nirvana school buildings are only about 40metres from the sea:-
